Founded in 1930, this Kurashiki institution was Japan’s first private museum focused on Western art. Its collection spans Western masters, modern Japanese work, craft art and archaeology in buildings beside the Bikan canal district.
Willow-lined canals, white-walled storehouses, merchant homes and converted cafes form Kurashiki’s signature historic district. The area also links directly to the Ohara Museum of Art and short riverboat rides.
Takamatsu’s landscape garden combines ponds, sculpted pines and views of Mount Shiun. Allow time for a slow circuit. Boat rides, tea houses and evening openings have separate arrangements.
